They started off as Memphis RiverKings in 1992 as a part of the CHL. They played under this name for nineteen seasons at the Mid-South Coliseum, Memphis. The team joined the SPHL in 2011 and continues to play under its shell.
The RiverKings were renamed as the Mississippi RiverKings in 2007. Tennessee. In 2000, the teams’ home arena was shifted to the Lander's Center. This state-of-the-art training and sports facility has seen great games played by the team and its rivals. The team trains and plays its home games and has been known as one of the loudest venues of the south.
The team has been playing regular season for a very long time, however, they have not been able to win any Seasonal, Divisional or Conference Championships apart from the Ray Miron President's Cup in 2001-2002 and again n 2002-2003. These wins became possible when the RiverKings became affiliates of NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs. This affiliation brought some strong players from this club and helped it win the President's Cup.
As a part of the CHL the team started shining when it stood third in the Eastern Division after winning rounds 1 and 2. The team however lost to Fort Worth Fire in the Final Round. This defeat was very important for the team as it helped them maintain top positions in the division. It was the year 2000 when the team stood first in the division for the first time. This improvement in the graph motived the team to work harder and maintain its title as the lead in the division for the next two seasons.
From 2002 to 2009 the team had a very steady graph with a very consistent point average. In the next four seasons, the team moved from the top three positions to the fourth, fifth and eventually sixth in the division. The season-by-season record of the past five seasons suggest that the team is struggling to bring its declining percentage of wins up. Their average went from a good 0.711 in 2008-2009 to a 0.473 in 2012-2013.
The RiverKings have always worked together as a team. For this season they are making good effort on improving their defense weaknesses. They are also improving player strength by acquiring new talented players. Moreover the coach is also training the team for attaining better strategy and gameplay.
