The Minnesota Timberwolves have seen many ups and downs in their career. They had a stuttering start, typical of expansion teams, when they began playing in the NBA. They were able to register their first win in the third game they played. Even though the team only won twenty game in the season, it did not deter the home fans from cheering on their team. The Timberwolves drew the third largest crowd in NBA history, with more than forty nine thousand five hundred people showing up for a home game in 1990. As the team slowly improved, the change in fortunes came during the 1995 season, when the promising fifth overall pick Kevin Garnett became a part of the Wolves. The rookie showed his potential on the court when he took the team to their first ever playoff spot in 1996.

Garnett, along with team member Tom Gugliotta led the team in scoring, helped by point guard Stephon Marbury. Thanks to the trio, 1997 was the first winning season of the team. However the success didn’t last for long as Marbury and Gugliotta both left the team in 1998. Garnett then shouldered the responsibility of taking the team forward. The Minnesota Timberwolves made it to the playoffs eight consecutive times between 1997 and 2004. 2004 was the most successful year for the team as they won their first and only Division Title during that season.
