The Wolverines-Lions Rivalry
Even though the Michigan Wolverines and the Nittany Lions have been playing since the 19th century, it wasn’t until the year 1999 that these two teams first competed. The game took place at the State College in Pennsylvania and was won by the Wolverines, 21-13. Over the years, the rivals have met 18 times, with the Michigan Wolverines dominating the rivalry (11 wins to the Lions’ 7 victories). Comparing victory statistics, the Wolverines have established the longest winning streak with 9 continuous wins in between 1997 to 2007. The Nittany Lions currently hold the largest victory margin, winning by 32 points in 2008 (47-17).
The University of Michigan Basketball Team
The basketball program of University of Michigan began in 1908 in which the team achieved a record score of 1-4. The team played for three years after which the program was shut down due to low attendance. It restarted in 1917 under coach, Elmer Mitchell. The first two seasons were successful with the team scoring (6-12 and 16-8, respectively). The Wolverines’ wins include an NCAA Championship, 7 Final Four wins, 13 Elite Eight titles, a Conference Tournament Championship and 14 Conference Regular Season wins.
