The Michigan State University Spartans have a proud and illustrious history in sports. Their admirable record in some of the events is almost unparalleled. One such case in point is their winning record in football where they maintained a streak of podium finishes in the top two from 1951 to 1957 with the exception of 1953, 1954 and 1956.
The Spartans continued their winning way after a gap of ten years when they won the National Championship two years in a row from 1965 to 1966. In between they were also able to lift the coveted Rose Bowl trophy in 1954 and 1956, and once again later on in 1988.
Their opponents, the Hoosiers have a proud history of their own which dates all the way back to 1867 when the first basketball team was formed. The Indiana University Hoosiers have come a long way since then and their program now contains more than 600 students from both sexes in more than 20 different varsity teams.
