he Louisiana State University Tigers play in the SEC in the FBS sanctioned by the NCAA. The football team played its first season in 1893 and has crossed plenty of milestones since then. The Tigers began playing independently and then went on to play in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association till 1921. In 1932 they joined the SEC. They play their home games at the Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. They are currently coached by the prolific Les Miles, who will start his eleventh year with the team. The LSU Tigers finished their 2014 season with seven hundred and sixty one wins to their name since the beginning of the football program. This puts the LSY Tigers in the fourth spot on the list of SEC teams with the most victories. They trail only behind Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama. Team Awards

The Football team lays claim to three national titles won in 1958, 2003 and 2007. In the 2003 season they won the BCS National Championship by defeating Oklahoma by a score of twenty one to fourteen. They went on to win the 2007 BCS National Championship game as well, which made them the first team to win multiple BCS national titles since the BSC championship game was introduced. The second victory came over the Ohio State Buckeyes, in which the Tigers outlasted the Buckeyes in a closely fought game which showed a score of thirty eight to twenty four. The Tigers also boast of fourteen SEC Conference titles.

Individual Honors

There have been several American All Stars to originate from the Tigers football team. Till date twenty seven athletes have been selected from the team to feature as American All Stars. There is also a lone LSU Tiger to win the Heisman Trophy; Billy Cannon won the award in 1959 by more than nineteen hundred votes. Three players from LSU have also made it to the ‘Pro Football Hall of Fame’.
