The debut of the Cardinals dates back to the year 1909 when they started with baseball. Since their debut they are headquartered in Louisville in the State of Kentucky. Their official home football stadium is Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, the baseball home games are played at the Jim Patterson Stadium and the basketball matches take place at KFC Yum Center. The Cardinals are famously nicknamed the Cardinals and the University of Louisville is called U of L. The official colors are black and red, Fight, U of L! is the fight song of the Cardinals.

Louisville Cardinals have won 4 Conference titles in baseball, 27 Conference titles in men and women basketball, 3 in field hockey and 15 Bowl appearances. Over the years they have been able to qualify for the Final Four on eight occasions. The Louisville Cardinals all girl cheerleading team has been winning accolades for the university and since the year 2001 they consecutively have won 6 championships. Cardinals finished at 9th position in 2007 in the NCAA Championships. The Cardinals have immensely improved their overall Director Cup Standing as in the year 2000 they were at 174th place but in 2007 the Cardinals are placed at 28th position. The fiercest rivalry of Louisville Cardinals is with Kentucky Wildcats and this rivalry can be seen when both the teams square off against each other in football game called Governor’s Cup and in basketball called the Battle for the Bluegrass.
