Cardinals and Wildcats Rivalry
The Cardinals and the Wildcats have a strong rivalry that dates back to 1912, when the two teams first met. The Kentucky Wildcats inflicted a humiliating defeat, by holding the Cardinals to naught and putting forty one on the score board. In the next five meetings, the Wildcats held the Cardinals scoreless. The teams did not play a game from 1924 till the next seventy years. The series was revived in 1994 and both teams have met annually since then. In the twenty six encounters the score stands in favor of the Wildcats with fourteen wins and thirteen losses. However in the revival era (post 1994), as the Cardinals are quick to point out, they lead the series with thirteen wins and eight losses.
In their last encounter the Cardinals bested the Wildcats in a toe to toe battle, which showed a score line of forty four to forty towards the conclusion of the game. This allowed the Cardinals to extend their winning streak to four games.
