Basketball is a very popular game in the United States and watching competitive matches during the holidays can be a lot of fun. So, schedules of few tournaments are incorporated to attract maximum number of fans to these matches. Las Vegas Invitational is a men’s basketball tournament which is held each year during Thanksgiving week since 2003. It is basically a college basketball tournament and eight teams participate in it. Initially, Findlay Toyota sponsored the event and Valley High School in Las Vegas was the place where it was held. However, IBN Sports are the current sponsors of this tournament and since 2006; it is held at Orleans Arena.
Basketball fans eagerly wait for the announcement of participants in each year’s Las Vegas Invitational and organizers try to make the lineup more interesting each year. The participating teams at this year’s event include University of North Carolina in their lineup and it would be a very strong team for this tournament as the basketball program offered by University of North Carolina is considered as one of the top most programs in the country. The nickname used for this team is Tar Heels and they have won five NCAA National Championships so far. The team is all set to give their optimal performance under the leadership of their head coach Roy Williams and they must be geared up to perform better during Las Vegas Invitational because it would be their second appearance during this tournament.
UNLV Running Rebels would be making their debut as they have been included in Las Vegas Invitational’s lineup for the very first time and this team should not be underestimated because upsets are part of interesting sports combats. It would be interesting to watch UNLV Running Rebels play during the tournament as spectators would like to see how the team is dealing with the departure of Lon Kruger who has been with the team since 2003 and now going to University of Oklahoma. This tournament can be a good opportunity for Dave Rice to prove his abilities as coach and this team would also be hoping that Chace Stanback, Oscar Bellfield and Anthony Marshall are used in an effective way to get some good results.
Las Vegas Invitational lineup for this year also includes University of South Carolina Gamecocks which is coached by Darrin Horn these days. Jio Fontan, Sam Muldrow and Maurice Jones would be looking forward to mark their impact during this tournament by giving a spectacular performance. Their fans would also be cheering for their team hoping they win this tournament. Also included in the lineup of Las Vegas Invitational this year is Morgan State Bears men’s basketball team which represents the Morgan State University. Todd Bozeman is the coach of this team at the moment. This team can be an underdog during this year’s championship as they do not have anything to loose in this tournament and are not coming to this tournament while carrying a set of records on their shoulders.
University of South California Trojan’s team is also included in Las Vegas Invitational lineup and they are coached by Mike Garrett. Tennessee State University men's basketball team is also a part of this year’s event. The team is coached by John Cooper who will be looking forward that their extensive training during this year’s summer camp proves fruitful for their team during this tournament and he will be keeping his fingers crossed for his team’s victory. All eyes would be focused on Jay Harris too who has recently joined the team. Basketball team of Mississippi Valley State has also been included in this year’s lineup for the tournament and under the head coach Sean Woods who is in his third year with the team they will be looking forward to some good matches.
The final participant this season is California State Polytechnic University. The team is coached by Greg Kamansky who has strengthened the team by inducting Quinton Watkins, Jibreel Nasir, Jordan Richard and many others. The team’s morale is expected to be sky high as they won their first NCAA championship in 2010 and are expected to perform really well this year.
