The Immortals

Wildcat fans still remember the legendary team of 1898 which has come to be known as ‘The Immortals.’ What makes ‘The Immortals’ truly legendary is the fact that the team not only achieved the amazing record of  remaining undefeated throughout the season, but did it without having a single point scored against them or tying a game. At that time the coach of the Immortals was W. R. Bass. He led the team to finish the year with a perfect record of 7 wins, no defeats and no losses.

The Era of the ‘Bear’

The greatest era of the Wildcats in the twentieth century came under the guidance of their legendary coach Paul Bryant, better known amongst friends as the ‘Bear.’ The ‘Bear’ coached the Wildcats for eight years. During his time, the Cats went  on to win the Great Lakes Bowl in 1947, the Sugar Bowl in 1951and the Cotton Bowl Classic in 1952. Another feather in his cap was leading his team in defeating the top ranked Oklahoma Sooner team in the Sugar Bowl. In doing so, the Cats ended the 31 game winning streak of the Sooners.
