The Royals Start Their Journey
The Kansas City Athletics relocated to Oakland in 1967 to leave the city without a professional baseball side for the first time since 1883. Stuart Symington, a Senator convinced MLB to grant Kansas City a new team. The league complied and awarded the city its new team which was to start playing in 1971. Symington was having none of that and it was agreed that the team would begin playing in 1969. That was the start of the Kansas City Royals as we see it today.
The Royals And Titles
The Kansas City Royals took a while to get going but turned things around by winning three straight division titles in 1976, 1977 and 1978. Then in 1980 they won another division championship and their first pennant. Another division title was won in 1984 before the Royals went on to clinch the pennant, the division title and the World Series in 1985.
Their form faltered after that and it was in 2014 that the Royals once again won the pennant. That was followed by a division, pennant and World Series treble in 2015. They have to defend their crown now and it will be thrilling to see how they go about handling that task.
