With the merger of American Basketball Association and National Basketball Association, Indiana Pacers was among San Antonio Spurs, Denver Nuggets and New York Net to join NBA. During these two decades, the team missed most of the playoffs and became a spectator to rest of the serious games. Pacers were unable to cling to this conference title next year in 1996 but they did achieved something jaw dropping. They defeated Chicago Bulls twice in that year and compensated their poor performance of that year. The season of 1997-98 brought some hopes for the fans of Indiana Pacers. The coach Larry Bird helped the team get in shape and bud the passion for victories. Under his coaching, the Pacers set the franchise record of 58-24 and improved by 19 levels from their previous position. Some of the famous players from the team’s squad of 1998 include: Dale Devis, Derrick Mckey, Rik Smits, Antonio Davis, and Reggie Miller.

The following season 1998-1999 turned out to be more promising for the fans and management. Indiana Pacers showed tremendous improvement and defeated Milwaukee Bucks, Philadelphia 76ers and New York Nicks to face the Los Angeles Lakers in the first ever Final match of the NBA. The psychological pressure and of course strong performance by the Lakers, Indiana Pacers lost the game. Indiana Pacers have been struggling to win the NBA Championship ever since and they improvement, although slow, is gradual. The team has won a total of 4 Division titles, the latest of which was scored in 2004. Pacers only Conference title was achienved in the year 2000. The team and its fans are craving for a notable victory from the last 10 years now.  Hopefully the star will soon shine their light on the Pacers and show them the road to glory; the fans are meanwhile requested to stay put.
