The Astros at a Glance

The Houston Astros entered the MLB as an expansion franchise along with the New York Mets back in 1962. They have been a part of the West Division of the American League since 2013 after playing in the National League for the first 51 seasons as an MLB franchise.

The side from Texas was originally named Houston Colt. 45s when it came into existence in 1962. Three years later, the current name was adopted to depict Houston’s importance in the American space program. At the same time, the team left their Colt Stadium home arena and moved to the Astrodome.

Known today as the NRG Stadium, the Astrodome is the first multi-purpose domed arena for sports in the world. It remained the Astros’ home until 1999 when the team moved to the Minute Maid Park and continues to play there today. You can enjoy all their games in this magnificent stadium by getting Houston Astros tickets.

On the field, the Astros have a number of unique exploits to their name. They are the first MLB side in history to have won a pennant both in the American League and the National League. They achieved this feat on the way to lifting their maiden MLB World Series title in 2017. This was also the first time that a team from Texas had tasted World Series success.

In 51 seasons in the National League, the Astros won 6 division championships. Two of these came when they were in the West Division (1980 and 1986) while the other four triumphs (1997, 1998, 1999 and 2001) were in the National League Central Division.

Furthermore, they won the National League pennant in 2005 before shifting to the American League in 2013. The Astros’ beginning to life in the AL has been sensational with two Division titles, one league pennant and a World Series crown in the first five years.

Some of the biggest names in the game have donned the Astros colors over the years and done wonders on the field. These include the likes of Randy Johnson, Don Sutton, Eddie Mathews, Robin Roberts, Ivan Rodriguez and Craig Biggio among others.

Greatest Moments

Without a shadow of a doubt, the Astros’ finest hour came in 2017 when they prevailed over the highly fancied Los Angeles Dodgers in a thrilling World Series that went down to the wire. That encounter went back and forth with both teams taking the lead and having to claw their way back to square one.

With the Dodgers having home field advantage, they started off the series with a comfortable win at the Dodger Stadium but the Astros claimed a narrow victory in the second game to level the series. They then made the most of their first game at home to take a 2-1 lead but dropped game 4.

At 2-2, an enthralling game 5 at the Astros’ Minute Maid Park ended with another narrow win for the hosts. The Dodgers came back again to level at 3-3 before the Astros delivered a baseball master-class in the decider to win the World Series for the first time.

Back in 1986, the Astros were on an absolute tear and a second National League West Division title beckoned. In a decisive regular season game against the San Francisco Giants, pitcher Mike Scott struck out 5 straight Giants batters to wrap up the Division crown. Scott had previously been taught the split-finger fastball by none other than Giants manager Roger Craig. On that night, Scott showed Craig what a brilliant student he had been.

Moments like this make the Houston Astros the wonderful franchise it is today. And considering how the team has been faring in recent MLB seasons, you can expect much more from them in the near future. Get Houston Astros tickets today and witness the current crop looking to cement their place in Astros’ folklore.

The Houston Astros are World Series Champions

History has been made! The Houston Astros are World Series champions! They won Game 7 against the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-1 to seal their first World Series triumph in history. The  fact they beat the Dodgers at the Dodger Stadium make the feat all the more impressive. George Springer was the star of the show once again and was rightly awarded the Willie Mays World Series MVP title in the end. This is some triumph for the Astros. They have reached the top of the mountain for the first time in their history and in the process have brought Houston its first ever World Championship.

The Houston Astros are on a high

It is great to be a Houston Astros fan right now. They are flying at the moment and have just clinched their first division championship since the year 2001. Now that they will be playing in the ALDS, Houston Astros tickets for the series have been bought by their fans in record time as well. It has been a stellar campaign from the franchise and the Astros are far from done yet. They have their sights set on the ultimate prize in the sport, the World Series and they are now being tipped by quite a few people to reach the top once again this season.

Houston Astros: A.J. Reeds Looks to Seize First-Base Opportunity

23-year old A.J. Reed is hoping to bring stability into the Astros first-base. After his first taste at the Major League, Reed spent most of the off-season working with the Astros hitting coaches. He’s been focusing on his swing, using his legs a bit more and getting the bat on the plane for a longer duration. And the results are showing. Reed himself feels the difference and believes that his “swing” has never been better. He’s now just waiting to see how it translates into games.

In another Houston Astros news, the team is ready to kick off the Spring Training season at the brand-new Ballpark of the Palm Beaches. The area has a lot to offer the faithful baseball fans – inside and outside of the ballpark.

Where is spring training for the Houston Astros?

It is a brand new season and a brand new start for the Houston Astros in terms of Spring Training. The Astros will be moving to a new home for Spring Training starting 2017. They used to train at the Osceola County Stadium which was based in Kissimmee. But, now that is all in the past, as the Astros will be setting up their Spring Training camp at the brand new The Ballpark of The Palm Beaches. They will, however, not be the only residents of the new ballpark. They will share it with the Washington Nationals.
