Collegiate basketball teams, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will be competing against each other soon. The upcoming game that is scheduled to be held at the Notre Dame Stadium will add another chapter to the existing rivalry. The rivalry between the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish has been going on for decades now. It started back in 1922 in Atlanta in a game that was won by the Fighting Irish, 13-3. Over the years the teams have gone head to head 34 times with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets leading the rivalry, 27-6-1. Comparing the two teams’ wins, the largest victory scored by the Fighting Irish was in 1977 (69-14) while for the Yellow Jackets this was in 2007 (33-3).

Both teams separately have enjoyed massive success throughout their careers. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish as of 2014 ranks number 1 among the 129 NCAA teams with an all-time score of 882-310-42. The Yellow Jackets stand in 30th place with a 711-477-43 all-time score. Wins for both teams include 13 National Championships and 35 Bowl Game wins for the Notre Dame based team and 4 National Championships, 16 Conference titles and 44 Bowl Game wins for the Georgia based team.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets basketball program began competing in 1892. Its first season was an unsuccessful one losing all 3 games. The team picked up pace in the following season with a 2-1-1 score (0.625 winning percentage). Since then, the Yellow Jackets have been able to establish itself among the most successful teams in the NCAA.
