The home stadium where the Gator Bowl is held each year is the EverBank Field the location of which is in Jacksonville in Florida. From 1946, when the game began officially till the year of 1993, the stadium where this bowl game was held at was the Gator Bowl Stadium. Then in the year of 1994, the game was shifted to the Ben Hill Stadium. Before the game was relocated to Jacksonville, it was being held in Gainesville which is also in Florida. The conference tie-ins that the bowl game is associated with are the Big Ten and the SEC (Southeastern Conference). As of the year of 2006, the total payout of this remarkable bowl game has been US $2.5 million.
The history of the Gator Bowl is increasingly interesting. Charles Hilty. Sr. was the brain child behind creating this fantastic bowl game. Hilty partnered with Maurice Cherry, Ray McCarthy and W.C. Ivey and gathered a total sum of $10,000 to endorse the first bowl game. The first bowl game was hosted in the famous Jacksonville’s football stadium which is known as the Fairfield Stadium. The event took place on the 1st of January in the year of 1946. From thereon, the event became very popular and fans of the bowl game came from across other cities to attend it. By the year of 1970, the event’s popularity had grown so much that the regular attendance of the event went to 60,000 to 70,000 people attending it. Now 42 years later, the attendance of the event has grown to immeasurable numbers. Each year the popularity of the event seems to increase.
