The arena was scheduled to be fully operational by the team’s 2003 season. Also in 2002, Roughriders’ affiliation with the Texas Rangers was announced. After the team’s move to Frisco, it enjoyed a warm welcome in the form of a sold out season opening game. In their inaugural game, Frisco Roughriders attracted a total of 10,000 fans, hence packing the stadium. Also in 2003, Dr. Pepper Ballpark was named the Best New Ballpark by Baseballparks.com. In their first season, Roughriders made their very first league championship appearance, where the team lost to San Antonio Missions. They were able to set attendance records which went a long way in ensuring the team’s bright future.
In 2004 the team won its very first Texas League Championship, to become one of the teams to beat in the league. Apart from that 2004 league championship, they have also claimed another four division titles, the most recent of which came in 2012.
