The Fosters Farm Bowl

Certified by the NCAA, this post season football game has been played since 2002. Having gone through a number of name changes, it is currently being sponsored by Foster Farms Poultry Company. The Fosters Farm Bowl has conference tie-ins with Pac-12 and Big Ten. Previously it had associations with ACC, Army, Navy and BYU. In the past, the Fosters Farm Bowl has always hosted high scoring games. This trend confirms the amount of action expected during these games. In fact, one of the highest scoring games took place just four years ago when Arizona State defeated the Army 62–28.

The Fosters Farm Bowl is not held every year solely for entertainment purposes. The Bowl’s mission statement clearly states that it works toward hosting a first class post college football event. The event aims to provide a memorable experience for the participating schools and their fans. Also, the Fosters Farm Bowl promotes a positive economic impact on the San Francisco Bay Area which helps shed light on many of the nonprofit organizations. In addition to the above, the Fosters Farm Bowl also offers the contending teams and their fans a chance to enjoy a ‘Bowl’ week with a number of interesting activities.

The Indiana Hoosiers

The last time the Hoosiers won a bowl game was in 1991. Although, this should not have any effect on the team’s performance, still there will be a nagging feeling of how could they’ve come so far without winning. The team’s performance looks good and they are currently the favorites. The Hoosiers have high hopes pinned on their wide receivers. One player to look out for will be Mitchell Page. He leads his teammates in receptions and his running style has been effective in running sweeps, returning punts and catching passes.

The Hoosiers have reserved their place in their second consecutive bowl game. This was partly due to the running back Devine Redding. They won over rival Purdue in a close game. This was the fourth straight year when the Hoosiers defeated the Boilermakers. And that’s not all. With a six win season, the Hoosiers are confident that they can take down Utes even without their coach Kevin Wilson. It all comes down to Dec 28 when these two teams meet in Santa Clara.

The Utah Utes

As opposed to the Hoosiers who’ve never been to the Foster Farms Bowl before, the Utes have made an appearance before. In 2005 when it was called the Emerald Bowl, they beat Georgia Tech 38-10 with Travis LaTendresse and Eric Weddle scoring MVP honors. This year however things don’t look that good for Utes. They were in serious contention for the Pac-12 until they suffered heartbreaking defeats at the hands of Colorado and Oregon. This has pushed the morale down and the team will need to do some serious soul searching before they take the Levi’s stadium on Dec 28.

The Hoosiers will need to keep tabs on Joe Williams. The Utes’ running back can give the Hoosiers some serious trouble, especially with the 1,110 yards he’s racked up over the last five games. That is 222 yards per game. And let’s not forget his valiant 332 yard effort against UCLA. The Utes may draw some inspiration from Troy Williams’ last minute touchdown to win the game against USC. It’s these kinds of plays that can turn the game on its head for the Utes.

No matter what the result, this year’s Foster Farms Bowl is expected to be a thrilling contest. Both teams have what it takes to win. It all comes down to how the teams perform on Dec 28.
