Denver Nuggets was founded in 1967 as Denver Rockets and they were a charter franchise of ABA. In 1976 after merging with NBA, ABA ceased to exist and the name Rockets was changed to Nuggets. After ABA merger Nuggets were one of the only 4 teams who became a part of NBA. Since 1999 Denver Nuggets home court is the Pepsi Center located on 1000 Chopper Circle in Denver. In the yearly years great players like Larry Jones, Ralph Simpson, Byron Beck and Spencer Haywood were in Denver Nuggets and played pivotal role in winning of 1970 Divisional title.

In 1975-76 Nuggets played well with Larry Brown as coach and stars like David Thompson and Marvin Webster, with this lethal combination they won both Divisional Finals. Apart from this Nuggets also won their first and only Conference Title in 1976. After induction in NBA, Nuggets continued showing their great form by winning 2 Divisional Titles in a row in 1977-78. In 1979 Coach Larry left the team and Nuggets faced a bad patch for the next few years but it was Coach Doug Moe who restored the team’s confidence. Doug was hired in 1981, he changed the playing style of his team and focused more on offense then defense. This made the Nuggets a tough opponent, highlight of this strategy was that Nuggets games got very high scoring and they set a unique NBA record of scoring minimum 100 points in every game for consecutive 136 games they played. They won two Divisional Titles in 85-88. Nuggets also made history by registering 54 franchise-record wins.

In 1990 Paul Westhead replaced Doug, he continued the Nuggets offensive style of playing but focused less on defense, this caused the team to loose more points and Nuggets ended the season lowest in the league in 1990-91. In 1992 Westhead was replaced by legendary Nuggets player Dan Issel and under his coaching the Nuggets improved tremendously but missed playoffs by 36-46. In 1993-94 with some amazing play by Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, Nuggets won their first ever season 42-40 since Doug Moe and were seeded 8th in Western Conference playoffs. Nuggets excelled again by becoming the first ever 8th seed team to beat the 1st seed in history of NBA ,they stunned Seattle SuperSonics and won the match 98-94 but lost in the second round to Utah Jazz in a nail biting finish.  The years 1997-98, 2002-03 saw some of Denver Nuggets very lowest performances.

In 2003, Denver got star player Carmelo Anthony and George Karl as the head coach. After signing Carmelo the team never missed the playoffs and under Karl’s guidance team recorded a 32-8 win in 2004-05 and went on to win the Divisional Title in 2006. In 2009-10 Denver Nuggets managed to win 53 games and finished 4th seed in West Conference and also won Northwest Divisional title for both years.  With some great game exhibited by Carmelo and another new star Chauncey Billups the Nuggets went on to play the 2009 Conference finals but lost to Los Angeles Lakers in 6 games.
