When Big Papi announced he was going to retire at the end of the season, speculation immediately turned to potential replacements for the Red Sox icon. Numerous players have been linked to the Red Sox over the course of the season, but there are only a few names which seem like actual replacements for Ortiz.

The Toronto Blue Jays’ Edwin Encarnacion is one such name. Encarnacion has a wonderful record at Fenway Park; he has struck twelve home runs, driven in thirty seven runs and his average in forty four career games at the ballpark is 0.296. Encarnacion will be out of contract at the end of this season and the Red Sox would not mind having his firepower on their side.

Another player being linked to the Boston side is Jose Bautista, who also has a superb record at Fenway Park. The slugger has belted twenty two homeruns, driven in fifty one runs and has an average of .277 in sixty games at Fenway Park. With Ortiz retiring, Bautista could very well be the player to take the Red Sox forward. He is also out of contract at the end of the season.

The third possible player being linked to the Red Sox is Mark Teixeira, the Yankees’ first baseman. Despite the fact that his offensive stats have slipped, Teixeira still remains a supremely talented first baseman and Boston could very well have Hanley Ramirez and Teixeira shared DH and first base duties next season to account for Ortiz’s retirement.

Boston Red Sox Season Tickets

The Boston Red Sox are scheduled to play a series of interesting games in April 2019, against some of their biggest rivals, including the New York Yankees. Get ready for some serious action as the season speeds up.

About the Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox are a pro-baseball team from Boston, Massachusetts, competing in the MLB as a member of the AL-East division. In the past years, the Red Sox have bagged nine World Series Championships and have played in 13. Their most recent appearance was in 2018, discussed below. The team was founded in 1901 as one of the American League’s eight charter franchises and has played its home games at the Fenway Park since 1912.

Boston Red Sox has always been a dominant team in the world of baseball, quickly becoming a fan favorite thanks to its stellar performances and lineup. The team defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first ever World Series in 1903 and managed to get four more championship wins by 1918.

But it was not all smooth sailing for the Red Sox. After 1918, the team went into a long victory-less spell – also dubbed as the “Curse of the Bambino.” This time period started with the sale of Babe Ruth to the team’s rival, the New York Yankees. The 86-year long spell ended when the Boston Red Sox finally won their sixth World Championship in 2004. These 86 years were marked with some of the most interesting moments baseball ever got to see. Let’s take a look at a few of these moments.

Boston Red Sox – Interesting Moments

Slaughter’s Mad Dash: The Mad Dash refers to an event that took place in the eighth inning of the seventh game of the 1946 World Series between the Boston Red Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals. The ambitious home run by Slaughter put the Cardinals in a 4-3 lead.

Impossible Dream: The Impossible Dream refers to the 1967 Boston Red Sox Season, which was the 67th season for the franchise. The Red Sox managed to finish first in the American League (AL) with a record of 70 losses and 92 wins. The reason why this season became so memorable was because the AL pennant race came down to the very last game as the Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins lost to the Red Sox. This became the first winning season for the Red Sox since 1958. They shocked the world by reaching the World Series – something they hadn’t been able to do since 1946.

Boston Red Sox 2018 Season

The last season was perhaps one of the best for the Boston Red Sox. With 108 wins to their name, this season was a breath of fresh air for the fans of the Massachusetts side. The team has only won more than a 100 games a bunch of times in history – 1946, 1915 and 1912. Even though this year’s record at .667 was lesser than the previous three times, it is still a very welcome win. Why so? Because they are not the only team to have won a notable amount of games in 2018; but they are the team with the highest number of wins – Yankees won 100 games, Tampa Bay Rays won 90 games, Cleveland Indians won 91 games and the Astros bagged 103 victories.

In the 2017-2018 offseason, J.D. Martinez was signed on, joining the likes of Mookie Betts, Chris Sale, Xander Bogaerts and Craig Kimbrel. Martinez became exactly what the team needed to bring the championship home.

As the 2019 now kicks off, the Red Sox will be back in form to try and work their magic one more time! If you want to be a witness to their success story this season, come out and support them by getting these Boston Red Sox tickets.

Rob Gronkowski steals Tom Brady's jersey

Monday was the Boston Red Sox’ season opener and they had invited the legendary New England Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady to throw the first pitch. But before he could do that his Patriots teammate Rob Gronkowski stepped in to snatch Brady’s Super Bowl LI winning jersey and ran away. Brady however was having none of it and took after Gronk and tackled him just after the dirt. It was a hilarious moment, that the fans enjoyed and now it is down to business for the Boston Red Sox this season. Yes, Brady did throw the first pitch afterwards.

There is some very good news for the Boston Red Sox Fans. Two of their pitchers, Drew Pomeranz and Steven Wright are now back from injury and looking good. Both players stepped up to the mound and pitched without showing any signs of discomfort. Steven and Drew both made it to the All-Star squad last year but injuries hampered their form over the second leg of the campaign. The good thing is that there is plenty of time till the new season starts so both of them have a lot of time to get in shape and form.
