The Sprint Center is a large multipurpose arena located in downtown Kansas City. The arena was opened to the public in 2007 and Elton John was the first artist to perform there. All of the champions, since the inception of the tournament, have been from the top four seeds. Kansas, Iowa, Missouri and Oklahoma have kept the title between themselves.
Kansas has the best record in basketball in Big 12. It boasts of ten appearances in the final game of the tournament, from which they have emerged as the winner nine times. This spectacular record makes Kansas Jayhawks the team with the most Big 12 titles. They are followed by Oklahoma who are second in the list of Big 12 titles won. Oklahoma lags far behind Kansas, having won three titles from their five appearances. Missouri and Oklahoma State follow next with two titles each. The most unfortunate team in the Big 12 tournament has been Texas; even though the Longhorns have made it to the final game six times, they have never been able to win the title.
The tournament held last year in 2014, saw the Iowa State Cyclones take on the Baylor Bears in the final. The Cyclones made it to the finals after defeating Texas Tech in the first round and Kansas State in the second. They met with the dangerous Kansas Jayhawks in the semis and defeated them to secure a place in the finals. The Cyclones got the better of the Bears and won the Tournament by getting seventy four points on the board, and holding the Bears to sixty five.
