The Baylor Bears are the many sports teams that make up the athletics program of the Baylor University located at Waco in the US state of Texas. This amazing athletics program and its highly successful teams are part of the Big 12 Conference within the NCAA Division I. The present athletics director of the program is Ian McCaw and there are a total of sixteen varsity teams that make up the Baylor Bears athletics program. The football teams play football at the Floyd Casey Stadium, the basketball teams play basketball at the Ferrell Center and the baseball teams play baseball at the Baylor Ballpark. The present mascot of these teams are Joy and Lady whereas the teams are fondly known by the nickname, the Bears. The Baylor Bears are unique in that Baylor University is the only private university within all of the Big 12 Conference. Before joining this conference, the university and its program was part of the Southwest Conference from 1914 onto 1994. In 2005, they again faced the UCLA Bruins in the national championship match. The baseball team had a record eleven NCAA Regional Appearences in eleven seasons from 1998 onwards to 2009; each and every year except 2004 and 2008. The team also had three NCAA Super Regional Appearences and one College World Series Appearences. This team has also hosted an NCAA Regional three times as well as an NCAA Super Regional two times. Additionally, the Baylor Bears baseball team is one of the only two teams to have qualified for the Big 12 Conference tournament each and every year. The Baylor Bears Lady Bears basketball team won the national NCAA Women’s Division I Basketball Championship in 2005 and this team has been part of the NCAA Tournament a record eight times in nine years as well as a Final Four appearance.
Despite many challenges, the Baylor Bears basketball team has managed to be ranked Number Seven all over the US in college basketball. Its players have also been honored; Aaron Bruce became the Highest Scoring Freshman in 2005 and Mamadou Diene was amongst the Top 10 Centers in the 2007 NBA Draft. Aside from that, this team has seen three consecutive postseason appearances, an NIT Championship game appearance and part of the Elite Eight. They have also won five amazing Conference Championships and reached NCAA Tournament twice as well as made the Final Four twice.
The Baylor Bears have also won four baseball conference championships, two men’s cross country conference championships, three fencing conference championships, five football conference championships, three men’s golf conference championships and a record seventeen men’s tennis conference championships.
