Arizona has enjoyed a rich baseball history. Even though the state had no major league baseball team, the state has hosted spring training since 1946. So there already existed a huge fan following for the sport in the state. In 1995, Arizona was finally awarded a franchise which was to be called the Arizona Diamondbacks.
On 31st March, 2008, the D-Backs played their inaugural game against the Colorado Rockies and lost 9-2. However, their first game didn’t set a tone for their next few seasons, and the team was overall very successful.
The D-Backs won 3 division titles, 1 National League Pennant and a historic World Series title during their first five seasons. The team gelled so well together that they notched their hundredth MLB win in their second season of playing professional baseball.
Not so “Deadly” Diamondbacks:
The mid 2000s brought in a period of lows for the D-Backs. From winning the World Series in 2001, the team next won a division championship in 2007. In between this period, they had difficulty even qualifying for the playoffs. As a consequence, the owners changed the backroom staff in an effort to rejuvenate the club.
Kirk Gibson was appointed manager in 2010 and led the team to a successful 2011 season. The team defied expectation and won their fourth division title.
Under Chip Hale, the D-Backs’ new manager, the franchise will look to return to winning ways. As the new season kicks off, it’s imperative that they get off to a good start. Book your Arizona Diamondbacks Philadelphia tickets and watch how good they are, live.
