The Crimson Tide are one of the most decorated football programs in the NCAA. They started playing in 1892 and the Crimson Tide have managed to win fifteen national championships in the years that have followed. If unrecognized titles are also included to the list, the Crimson Tide’s title tally goes up to nineteen, making them the fourth most successful football program in the NCAA.
Following the completion of the 2013 season, the Crimson Tide have 838 official victories in the NCAA Division I. These wins account for twenty seven conference championships and a record sixty post season bowl appearances.
The most successful period in the team’s history was during the tenure of legendary Hall of Fame coach, Paul “Bear” Bryant. Under his leadership the Crimson Tide won six national championships between 1958 and 1982.
The tenure of current Head Coach Nick Saban has also been pretty successful for the team. Saban joined the team in 2007 and guided the Tide to their twelfth national title in 2009. Since then they have won two more titles, with their last one coming in 2012. 2009 was also special for the program since it gave the Crimson Tide their first Heisman Trophy winner in history when Mark Ingram won the prestigious award.
