Monday Night Football just got more exciting as the 2014 AdvoCare V100 Texas Bowl will be returning to the NRG Stadium. The kickoff is set to take place on 29th December and will pit Arkansas Razorbacks and Texas Longhorns against each other. In 2006, Houston was awarded a new bowl game by the NCAA. Reliant Stadium hosted the inaugural Texas Bowl that witnessed a faceoff between Big 12’s Kansas State and Rutgers from the Big East. The following year, old rivals from the Southwest Conference met on the field and the fans enjoyed a thrilling game between Houston Cougars and TCU Horned Frogs. The clash resulted in the final score 20-13, in which the Frogs clinched the title. Rice Owls and Western Michigan Broncos met each other in the 2008 Texas Bowl in which the former claimed victory 38–14.
Texas Bowl entered the 2009 season on New Year’s Eve and treated the football fans to an exciting faceoff. Navy Midshipmen took on Missouri Tigers and after an early lead by the Tigers, the game turned around in the favor of Mids. Quarterback Ricky Dobbs led his side to 35-13 win. Opening a new chapter in 2010, Texas Bowl climbed the Big 12 selection order and partnered with the Big Ten Conference. It was an important game as it allowed Baylor Bears to end their 14 years bowl drought. They defeated Illinois Fighting Illini and took home the trophy.
The bowl returned in 2011 as Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas after signing a three-year contract. A thrilling game was enjoyed by the fans that year as Texas A&M Aggies and Northwestern Wildcats faced each other in a fierce battle. The game came to a close finish, after the Aggies clinched victory 33-22.
Texas Bowl recorded its most exciting and historic game in 2012 that featured a showdown between Minnesota Golden Gophers and Texas Tech Red Raiders. As the time expired, the Red Raiders pulled out a thrilling late win on a knuckleball field goal.
Last year the bowl game was played by Syracuse Orange and Minnesota Golden Gophers. Team Orange defeated the Gophers quite convincingly. 2014 Texas Bowl is all set to take place after its new partnership and is called AdvoCare V100 Texas Bowl. The Longhorns will be representing the Big 12 Conference, whereas the SEC Conference will be represented by the Razorbacks. The two teams have played each other 77 times, their most recent encounter taking place in 2008. The Longhorns have won their last two games played and lead head to head matchup 56-21. Both will be making an appearance at the Texas Bowl for the first time, so make sure you are there to support your side.
