Before 2009, the Adirondack Phantoms were known as the Philadelphia Phantoms and were located in the city of Philadelphia from 1996 on to 2009. In 2009, the team was relocated to GlenFalls in the US state of New York with its name also being changed. This came after it was announced that the old home of the Adirondack Phantoms, the Wachovia Spectrum, would be demolished to create a new facility known as Philly Live, by the then owners of the team, Comcast Spectacor. Comcast Spectacor then sold the Philadelphia Phantom to the Brooks Group of Pittsburgh. The new owners then moved the Phantoms to GlenFalls and named them the Adirondack Phantoms.
 
This team is also the second AHL team to play at their present location which is also temporary. A new arena for the team is being built at Allentown within the US state of Pennsylvania and the team’s long term aim is to move their. The present home of the Adirondack Phantoms was also home to the Adirondack Red Wings who occupied it from 1979 onwards to 1999. The AHL Board of Governors then gave permission to the Adirondack Phantoms owner to move the team to GlenFalls and the first game this team played was against the Norfolk Admirals. In 2011, the Adirondack Phantoms challenged the Wilkes-Baree/Scranton Penguins in a game that took place in the WellsFargoCenter; the Adirondack Phantoms triumphed and won the game by 4-2.
 
Future games and championships to be played by the Adirondack Phantoms include the third AHL Outdoor Classic and a match against the Hershey Bears at the CitizensBankPark, a record in the AHL since it will be the very first AHL outdoor game to be part of the Winter Classic celebrations. Within the team, its players have achieved a number of records. The most goals have been scored by Jon Matsumoto at thirty, the most assists by Erik Gustafsson at forty four, the most points at sixty two by Jon Matsumoto, the most penalty minutes at three hundred and thirty one by Zac Rinaldo, the most wins at twenty one by Johan Backlund and the most shutouts at five by Michael Leighton.
