"XXX" (pronounced 30) released in 1999 is ZZ Top thirteenth studio album. Billy Gibbons produced the record, which was the first time he was working with the trio without Bill Ham. The Roman numerals marked the thirty years since the bands formation. The album borrows elements from the hard rock and Blues rock genres. ZZ Top had written almost all the tracks on the record. 5 of the 13 songs were live recordings as mentioned in the listing. The album made the Billboard 200 chart and peaked it at the 100 position. Two of it singles also made it to the Mainstream Rock Tracks list. Fearless Boogie took the 13th position in 1999 while 36-22-36 peaked at the 31 place in 2000.

What's Up With That released via RCA Records in 1996 is a track from their "Rhythmeen" album. James Harman played the Harmonica on the track. They returned to their original sound by dropping the synthesizer instrument. Joe Hardy and Billy Gibbons co-wrote the lyrics for this song. The five-minute and nineteen second song borrows its musical elements from Blues Rock genre. The single had made the Canada Top Singles chart the same year. It peaked it at the 88 place.
