Yuridia in the Beginning
Born October 4, 1986, Yuridia Francisca Gaxiola Flores hails from Hermosilla, Mexico. From an early age, Yuridia showed an interest in music. Having participated in many competitions when she was a child, Yuridia first experience with performing on stage came with La Academia. A Mexican reality musical talent show, La Academia in its fourth year in 2005 invited Yuridia to participate. With 18 contestants hailing from all over Mexico and a couple from the US, Yuridia for the first time found herself performing on stage. She had previously limited her singing and performances to family and small local competitions. On an internationally televised stage, Yuridia found the confidence she needed. Yuridia performed well and just fell short of the top spot when she lost to Erasmo Gonzalez. The loss, however, did not deter this passionate artist and she quickly moved on to bigger and better things.
Debut Album and Success
2005 was the turning point in Yuridia’s career. After her exit from La Academia, Yuridia released her first album La Voz de un Angel (Voice of an Angel). Released in October 2005, La Voz de un Angel debuted at number 15 and quickly rose in the Mexican Top 100 albums chart. Within a few weeks the album reached the number one spot and held it for three months. The first song of the album was a cover of Robbie Williams 1997 hit Angels. Yuridia’s album remained in the Top 100 Mexican Album chart for more than 125 weeks. Yuridia’s cover of Angels also became one of her biggest hits to date. Her debut album also did well in sales with more than hundred and fifty thousand copies sold. La Voz de un Angel was also certified twice Diamond and thrice Platinum and Gold.
On the heels of La Voz de un Angel’s success, Yuridia released her second album Habla El Corazon on December 5, 2006 under Sony BMG. The album consisted mostly of covers of various international rock songs. The first single of the album was a cover of Bon Jovi’s This aint a Love Song. Habla El Corazon reached the top of the Mexican Top 100 Album Chart and at number 15 on the Billboard Latin Albums Chart. This album was certified Platinum and Gold by the AMPROFON with four hundred and fifty thousand sales and Platinum twice by the RIAA with two hundred thousand sales.
Yuridia’s third album Entre Mariposes was released November 15, 2007 in Mexico. This album marked the first time the first song was not a cover but an original written by her and Camila’s Mario Domm. The album was produced by Javier Calderon and quickly achieved Gold certification with fifty thousand copies sold on the day of its release. Entre Mariposes achieved 650,000 sales worldwide making it one of the most successful releases for Yuridia.
