Named after the popular saxophonist, Charlie "Yardbird" Parker, the band was formed back in the 60s. At first the young musicians, Jim McCarty, Anthony "Top" Topham, and Samwell-Smith were more interested in blues music. Well-known blues artists like Bo Diddley, Howlin’ Wolf, Elmore James and Sonny Boy Williamson II are some of their early influences. Soon they succeeded the popular band, the Rolling Stones by replacing them as the house band at the Crawdaddy Club in Richmond. Every day The Yardbirds were enjoying a steady increase in their fame and recognition. With time, they began to touch genres like psychedelic rock, blues rock also incorporating major elements of rhythm and blues. This earned The Yardbirds an amazing fan following and a lot of critical acclaim. No wonder their name is inducted into Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of "100 Greatest Artists of All Time" and VH1’s list of "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock." To date, The Yardbirds have worked with a number of well-known record label companies including Capitol, Columbia and Epic Records. They have released a variety of studio albums and produced various hit tracks that are still buzzing all over the media.
With hit numbers like, "Good Morning, School Girl" and "I Wish You Would," The Yardbirds managed to maintain a solid spot in both England and America’s music industry. These tracks are from the band’s first US album, For Your Love. Following its success, The Yardbirds came up with another one titled, Having a Rave Up with The Yardbirds. Billboard Magazine praised the record by saying, "they performed a variety of material, from blues to country [rockabilly] to rhythm and blues ... all swingers and loaded with excitement and discotheque appeal." The well-known magazine, Rolling Stone also described the album as, "the bridge between beat groups and psychedelia" and inducted the name into its list of "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time." Songs including, "Smokestack Lightening," "Evil Hearted You" and "The Train Kept A-Rollin" turned out to be the prominent ones.
After a long hiatus, The Yardbirds came back with a bang in the 90s and the new and improved ensemble released the album called, Birdland. This one included a number of guest appearances by famous musicians like Joe Satriani, Jeff Beck, Slash, Steve Vai and several more. Most of the songs are remakes of their classic 60s hits along with some new ones like "My Blind Life," "Crying Out for Love" and "An Original Man". Decades of experience earned them an induction in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Named "the most impressive guitar band in rock music" by a music critic, the band continues to entertain its fans. Like all their previous musical events, the upcoming Yardbirds concert is also expected to be epic. They’ll be performing all your favorite tracks with the same level of perfection and enthusiasm. You might also get to see a few surprise guests and for that you need to hurry up and reserve your Yardbirds tickets as soon as possible.
