In the world of Hip Hop music, Wu Tang Clan is undoubtedly one of the most influential hip hop acts of our time. Originating from State Island, New York, Wu Tang Clan has triumphed the subjected genre on every front ever since the clan was formed in 1992. The clan comprises of Method Man, Ghost Face Killah, Masta Killa, Inspectah Deck, Raekwon, GZA, U-God and RZA. The Wu Tang Clan was formed by the founding members and cousins, GZA, RZA and late Ol’ Dirty Bastard. Before founding the Wu Tang Clan , the trio formed All in Together Now which was initially known as the Force of the Imperial Master. During those early days, although the group managed to come into attention of several hip hop music listeners but unfortunately, they were unable to score a record deal. Later the formation of the Wu Tang Clan came into play, and RZA took charge of the group as its producer and leader as well as being the founding members, in 1992. The name of the group was taken from a movie titled Shaolin and Wu Tang. The group met with its initial mainstream exposure after they released their independent single titled Protect Ya Neck in 1993. The independent single helped the group attract sound underground fan following but later their appearance on a tour with Cypress Hill and Kat Nu really increased the numbers.

The group also scored its first record deal with RCA after the record label agreed to sign them while allowing the members of the clan to pursue their solo recording careers as well. After sign their first record deal, the group released its debut album in 1993 titled Enter the Wu Tang (36 Chambers). The group’s debut album was released to critical acclaim did pretty well commercially. This helped the Wu Tang Clan in establishing mainstream fan following all across the nation. After evaluating the success that the album enjoyed, it is cited as one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time. Not only did this album help the group in gaining massive fame, it also helped the group members to launch their solo careers as well.

After making names for themselves as solo musicians as well, the group members reunited once again to release yet another studio album that would go on to be more than just successful. Wu Tang Clan ’s double album, Wu Tang Forever hit the stores in 1997, after which it dominated the Billboard charts by taking the top spot. The album went on to receive multi platinum status and also earned the group a Grammy nomination. After enjoying success of their second album as a group, the group decided to draw their attention towards their solo careers once again and all solo group members released their follow up solo albums. Although the albums managed to do really well commercially, however they didn’t garnered positive reviews from the critics.

Wu Tang Clan came up with its third studio album in 2000 which featured guest appearances by Busta Rhymes, Snoop Dogg, Junior Reid, Isaac Hayes, Nas and Redman. The album did great both critically and commercial, and peaked at #1 spot on the Hip Hop albums chart in the week it debuted. The album also went on to receive platinum status. The following year, the group came up with yet another studio album, titled the Iron Flag. Even though the album received Gold Status, but it didn’t garner as much success as their previous albums did comparatively. After Iron flag, the members released a couple of their solo album before finally releasing the fifth studio album as a group in 2007. The album is titled 8 Diagrams, and by far it is the latest studio work by the group. The New York based band will begin the road trip by performing its first gig at The Black Room in Kalamazoo on September 1st. They will then go on to thrill fans in venues like, the Soldier Field in Chicago, the Waiting Room in Buffalo, the Brooklyn Bowl in Brooklyn, The Vanguard in Tulsa and the Gas Monkey in Dallas. Wu-Tang will be making its final stop of the tour at the Navy Pier in Chicago on October 21st.
