The World Choir Games are organized and looked after by the German company INTERKULTUR and is the organization’s premier event. This year’s tournament is expected to be the biggest of all time. Three hundred and sixty teams from forty eight countries have confirmed their participation at the world championships. The competition consists of twenty three various categories out of which eleven are held in the first week and the remaining are scheduled for the next week. The event itself is divided into two competitions namely The Champions Competition and The Open Competition. The Champions Competition is the hardest to get into as the choirs are selected by the artistic committee. Any amateur choir that has some international exposure and has performed at a high level can apply.
 
The rules and the guidelines for application have already been laid out and every choir has to follow them to the letter. The best applicants will be shortlisted to take part in the main event. Any amateur choir group that can sing is eligible to enter The Open Competition. As the name says, it is an open invitation for all aspiring participants to come up to the stage and show the world they have got what it takes to become successful. A seven judge panel adjudicates The Champions Competitions who give every choir a score and that score is used to hand out the gold, silver and bronze medals. The process is more or less the same for The Open Competition as well, the only major difference being the number of judges on the panel are reduced to five. These medals are handed out at the lavish and spectacular World Choir Games awards ceremony on the last day of the event.
