Woodstock 2019 Lineup
The Killers, Miley Cyrus, Santana, The Lumineers, Dead and Company, Chance the Rapper, Black Keys, Jay-Z, Imagine Dragons, Halsey, Cage The Elephant, Brandi Carlile and Akon are among the big-name artists scheduled to perform at the official 50th anniversary concert festival.
The original Woodstock Music & Arts Fair was held on a farm close to the Catskill Mountains area of New York in 1969. Close to half a million people attended this festival of music that has since achieved cult status in American pop culture.
Some even consider it THE most important moment in the history of music. Promoted as “An Aquarian Experience: 3 Days of Peace & Music,” the epic event later became known simply as “Woodstock.”
The hugely successful show became synonymous with 1960s counterculture movement that originated in the United Kingdom before spreading State-side and other parts of the world. In many ways, Woodstock was a reaction from the youth of that time to the uncertain and challenging circumstances that they were dealing with. It was a way to express their feelings about important social issues that mattered to them.
Themes such as women’s rights, civil liberties and the anti-war movement were explored extensively during the festival that proved to be a defining moment in bringing together hundreds of thousands of people for the love of peace and music.
The original Woodstock Music & Art Fair included performances from over 30 different acts in front of nearly half a million people. The likes of Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Crosby, The Who, Nash & Young, Stills and Jefferson Airplane were all part of the lineup of musicians during those eventful three days. Many others delivered spellbinding performances to make the festival a truly memorable one.
Rolling Stone put Woodstock at number 19 on its list of 50 Moments That Changed the History of Rock and Roll. The event was beautifully captured in the Oscar-winning 1970 documentary Woodstock. A soundtrack album that accompanied it also became a major hit for the artists involved in its production. The festival venue was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2017.
The Grand Celebration
This year, Woodstock co-founder Michael Lang plans to bring back the festival while keeping its original spirit intact. Similar to the historic event that defined a generation 5 decades ago, the idea with this year’s celebration is to bring together people of all ages and from all walks of life in their love for music and art.
Causes such as equality and an inclusive future that is sustainable for everyone would be actively promoted and supported. With more than 40 acts from various genres and musical backgrounds set to perform, you are in for a treat and you need to buy Woodstock 50th Anniversary Festival tickets as soon as possible to enjoy every bit of it.
Woodstock 50th Anniversary Festival
Three different cities and hence three different venues will host the grand Woodstock celebrations this summer. Michael Lang promises to deliver an eclectic mix of artists ranging from rock and hip-hop to pop and blues. Furthermore, a few legacy bands that were there at the original festival will also be taking the stage.
Tributes will be paid to the artists that made the original Woodstock such a huge success. A number of newcomers will also be involved while tribute performances to Jefferson Airplane, Joe Cocker, Janis Joplin and others will be highlighting the event.
Three stages at the festival will bring together some of the biggest names from the world of rock, pop, hip-hop and country music while many up-and-comers will have the opportunity of a lifetime to make a name for themselves like never before.
In a departure from the usual norm at music festivals targeting a young audience, Lang is looking to attract people of all ages. In his own words, he wants the event to be multi-generational. You can witness all of it by getting your Woodstock 50th Anniversary Festival tickets.
