Washed Out Career
After completing his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia, Greene got a Master of Library and Information Science degree. However, he was unable to find work as a librarian. Due to that, he ended up moving back in with his parents and started experimenting with music in his bedroom/studio. In addition to that, he was also working on recordings of dance music with a local band by the name of Bedroom. Greene started to gain some fame in the music industry by catching the attention of several influential bloggers after they discovered his music on his Myspace page. His first few recordings reviewed were described as “drowsy, distorted, dance pop-influenced”. This is how the musical style of Washed Out eventually started to be known as on a wider scale as well.
Washed Out released his first two EPs in August and September of 2009. He had his debut New York City performance, which was also his second live show ever, at the Santos Party House. Since then, he has performed at the Pitchfork Music Festival in 2010. In addition to that, his song “Feel It All Around” was used as the opening theme for the television series Portlandia.
He was signed on to the label, Sub Pop in the April of 2011. He then released his debut album called, Within and Without, on 12th July, 2011. This album peaked at number 26 on the Billboard 200 and on number 89 on the UK Albums Chart. Thanks to this newfound fame, the career of Washed Out eventually began to gain some solid momentum. He was soon chosen by Battles to perform at the musical festival called the ATP Nightmare before Christmas that was co-curated by the band towards the end of 2011, in Minehead, England.
The singer released his second album, Paracosm, on 13th August, 2013, with lead singles from the album, “It All Feels Right” and “Don’t Give Up” being prominent numbers. In the same year, Washed Out’s song, “New Theory” from Life of Leisure was played in a background scene from The Spectacular Now.
It was reported on May 2014, that Washed Out was working on his third studio album. News from the band finally came in May 2017 with a unique Facebook announcement for a new tour. The album they were working on was released on 30th June 2017 and was called Mister Mellow.
