Soon after its formation in 1969, the band rose to immense fame. Despite four decades since the band’s creation, War has not lost its appeal to the music enthusiasts and still continues to reign over the hearts of its fans. War is famous for the eclectic and creative music that it has produced. Its sound is vastly different from the other bands in the music industry and it has done very well with the combination of soul, blues, jazz, Latin, reggae and rock genres. It is War’s talent of ingenious experiments and bold compositions that have made the band the success that it is today.
Another reason for War’s success was the fearless and positive way they negated racial discrimination and proudly stood by its multi ethnic lineup. This decision during the 1960s and 1970 was quite brave and earned them the respect of many open minded music lovers.
War’s music always had the laid back, relaxed quality which calmed the listeners and made them crave for more music by the band. War’s music highlights their Southern Californian roots and gives a sunny, enthusiastic vibe. The professionals in the music industry respect War for the long hours they put in their jamming sessions, to iron out every last kink in their songs and compositions.
All the group members share a diverse and innovative style of music, which can be clearly distinguished from the type of music the band has released over the years. The band’s lyrics lean towards socio political topics, but they dispelled the heaviness and seriousness of their lyrics through easy and fun musical compositions. The band reached the peak of its career in 1971 when it released its second album "All day Music". The album was a beautiful compilation of soothing music that took the music industry by storm. The mellow songs, coupled with many different instruments were enough for War to reach great heights. Fans went crazy over this album and War was gratified to see such a passionate response from its fans. The album spent thirty nine flattering weeks on the charts and got critical acclaim from the music industry. The songs of the album "Get Down" and "That’s What Love Can Do" were especially famous with the music lovers due to the melodious harmonies created through band vocals and the brilliant saxophone solo that was included in the songs. To this date All Day Music is remembered as one of the best efforts made by the band.
The band hit its stride when it released its third album in 1972. The album was titled "The World is a Ghetto" and with this album War managed to raise the bar it set with its previous albums. "The World is a Ghetto" had some incredible compositions and became immensely popular after its release. It topped the pop charts with its bold music and complex sounds. The arrangements of the composition were beautifully done, as each song highlighted the various instruments that were played. War took on a challenging role in this album by meshing different genres and instruments and pulling off extended pieces such as "City, Country, City" excellently.
Since then War has released many successful albums and singles. War’s most popular songs can be heard live if you just buy War tickets and watch the evergreen band set the stage on fire.
