The American progressive rock group has its roots in South Bend, Indiana. Their musical compositions are often referred to as "progressive improvisation." The sextet comprises of Brendan Bayliss (guitar, vocals), Joel Cummins (keyboards, vocals), Ryan Stasik (bass guitar), Andy Farag (percussion), Jake Cinninger (guitar, vocals) and Kris Myers (drums, vocals). The band is musically influenced by renowned progressive rock artists such as Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Frank Zappa, as well as heavy metal groups including Guns N' Roses and Iron Maiden. Umphrey’s McGee is also influenced by musicians Led Zeppelin, The Police and The Beatles.

The band was formed in 1997 at the University of Notre Dame when current members Brendan, Ryan, Joel and former member Mike Mirro (drummer) came together. At the time, the band started off by performing both cover songs as well as original compositions, live in concert. The cover songs included Vince Guaraldi's Peanuts theme Linus and Lucy, Guns N' Roses' Patience and numerous other songs by rock bands such as Moe, Phish and The Grateful Dead.

Umphrey’s McGee released  its  debut album under the title Greatest Hits Vol. III. The album had popular numbers such as All in Time, FF, Divisions, Phil's Farm and more. Soon after the release of their debut album, Umphrey’s McGee added percussionist Andy Farag as their fifth member.

In 1998, Umphrey's McGee as well as Ali Baba's Tahini were categorized amongst famous bands in the South Bend/Notre Dame region. Given the success of their music, Umphrey’s McGee started to perform at colleges and house parties. They allowed the viewers to record their performances at will. The same year, the band introduced their debut live album under the title, Songs for Older Women.

In 2000, Umphrey’s McGee added Jake Cinninger to the band, as the sixth member. Jake was former member of the band Ali Baba's Tahini. With this new addition, the band was flooded with a range of original musical compositions. Soon after Jake’s arrival, the band introduced their second live album, One Fat Sucka. The album featured live performances of the band which were recorded in 2000.

Along the way, Umphrey’s McGee has gifted their fans with a musical bouquet of eight studio albums, ten live albums, two extended plays and four video albums. They are soon coming to your town to entertain you. Umphrey’s McGee tickets are selling now. Keep an eye out for their upcoming concert and reserve seats for your friends and family today.
