Hector Acosta is one of the biggest names in bachata music and has enjoyed great success not just in Latin America but also in the United States. He started off his journey by joining the Los Toros Band with whom he went on to enjoy widespread acclaim and recorded many hit albums including, ‘Se Soltaron’ and ‘Raices.’ After remaining with the band for almost fifteen years, he decided to launch his own solo career and released his debut studio record, ‘Sigo Siendo Yo’ in 2006. It featured ten songs on the track-list including, Me Voy which reached the forty eighth spot on the Hot Latin Songs chart.
In late 2000s, Acosta began to gain traction when he put out his record, ‘Mitad/Mitad’ which was certified gold by the RIAA. He then went on to release two more gold albums, ‘Simplemente el Torito’ and ‘Obligame’ out of which the latter got him a Latin Grammy nomination for, ‘Best Contemporary Tropical Album.’ He has also been invited to the White House by Barack Obama who honored him with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015.
Also known as, ‘The Prince of Bachata,’ Frank Reyes’ career took off when Sony Music issued his sophomore studio effort, ‘Estelares de Frank Reyes’ in 1997. The record was received well by the critics and got 3/5 stars from AllMusic. Since then, he has not slowed down and has put out many popular records including, ‘Dosis de Amor.’ Released in 2005, this studio effort became a huge hit not just in the Spanish speaking countries but also in the States and collected overwhelmingly positive response from AllMusic who gave it 4.5/5 stars. His latest studio effort, ‘Devuélveme Mi Libertad’ hit the shelves on September 23, 2016 and featured many catchy hits like, Fecha de Vencimiento, Mujer de las Mil Batallas and Solo Tu.
Often considered one of the most influential bachata artists of all-time, Luis Vargas is credited for setting a new trend by performing bachata with an electric guitar. After deciding to pursue music as a career, he began to self-release his music and soon found support from local artists like, Artemio Sánchez, Pedro Pimentel and Anthony Santos. His music later started to receive airplay on national radio stations which helped him sign with Sony Music in 1996. The following year, he came out with his first major label studio record, ‘Volvio el Dolor’ which contained twelve songs including, Accidente, Amigo and Te Sigo Amando. He has since been on a roll, putting out one hit record after the other.
Born in the musical epicenter of the Dominican Republic, Canca Arriba, Zacarias Ferreira was interested in music from the beginning. He kicked things off by joining multiple groups before starting his own solo career by coming out with his debut studio album, ‘Me Libre’ in 1997. Issued by Discomania Records, the album turned out to be a hit as it not only got the critics raving but also earned him a Cassandra Award. He then followed it up by releasing his second studio record, ‘El Triste’ which won him his second Cassandra Award. A year later, Ferreira became the first bachatero to perform at the Festival del Presidente alongside acts like, Marco Antonio Solis, Marc Anthony and Los Hermanos Rosario.
Zacarias Ferreira didn’t slow down his pace and even went on to perform in the United States where he played 77 shows in 48 days. Today, his he has achieved an iconic status in Latin America due to his services to music.
