Turbonegro came into existence in the winter of the year 1988 in Oslo. Their first performance came in the third month of 1989 when they went on to take the stage at the Ungdomshuset in Copenhagen. Their debut in Norway came next month. Those two performances got a lot of positive feedback and that is what encouraged them to hit the studio for their first album.
Turbonegro then came out with "Route Zero" through Straitjacket Records. They followed that up with en EP titled Turboloid later in 1989. The two releases didn’t really got the success the group had hoped for commercially but received a lot of positive feedback from the critics. The band then flew all the way to the US for their first major tour next year.
They then went on to release the song "Vaya Con Satan 7" and the album titled "Hot Cars and Spent Contraceptives." For the first time, the masses could see a sound that could go on to become the group’s main strength and that is exactly what happened. It was hard, it was violent and it had a certain theme to it that had everyone purring in no time at all.
The band hit a stumbling block in 1993 when their lead vocalist Harald Fossberg left because of deteriorating health. His place on the roster was taken up by Hans Erik Husby. The members then made a decision to re-name the group "Stierkampf." That experiment didn’t last too long and they reverted back to Turbonegro shortly afterwards.
"Never is Forever," their next album hit the music stores in 1994. Once again it had the critics raving over it for the kinds of sound it contained. The success of the album paved the way for the group to embark on a European road trip. Then came "Ass Cobra" the band’s next album and took their popularity further. It was a huge hit that and the success of the album marked the turning point in the group’s fortunes. By the time late 1996 came around, the Turbonegro were on a roll and their reputation had begun to soar to new heights.
1998 saw the release of "Apocalypse Dudes" arguably the band’s best album in their history. It took their music and fame to heights never experienced before. The sound was a picture perfect blend of hard punk and rock n roll that captured the imagination of the masses in a very short time.
The band then headlined an epic tour of Europe where fans bought Turbonegro tickets and turned every one of their two dozen concerts into completely sold-out events. The group however broke up afterwards. The band members then joined hands to perform together at the Quart Festival. That one performance eventually resulted in the return of Turbonegro in the year 2002. The group then made their way to the US for a very successful road trip and followed that up with the release of their next album titled "Scandinavian Leather."
"Party Animals" was released in 2005 once again to immense acclaim. Albums like "Retox" and "Sexual Harassment" then came out in year 2007 and 2012 respectively to solidify their status among the best in the business. Turbonegro are still as active on the touring schedule as ever. They have been performing in front of sold-out crowds for year and that trend looks well on course to continue for a long time to come. So book your Turbonegro tickets and catch them live in concert.
