Trivium has been nominated for a variety of awards and has won Kerrang! Magazine Award, Kerrang! Award and a Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award. They are far from done just yet though.
Trivium was formed in 1999 in Orlando, Florida. The band’s founders were Matt Heafy, Brad Lewter and Travis Smith. Trivium is a Latin three-way intersection that the band members used to explain their music as combining thrash metal, melodic death metal and metalcore. Metallica was the reason why the original three came together in the first place; initially they played Metallica’s songs. The band has undergone lineup changes and today only Heafy from the original lineup is still with the band. Trivium’s current lineup consists of Alex Bent, Paolo Gregoletto, Corey Beaulieu, in addition to Heafy.
Making their mark
In 2002, Trivium recorded its first high-quality demo disc. It immediately impressed Lifeforce, a German record label and the band was signed on soon after. Lifeforce would release the band’s debut album, while the remaining studio albums were released under Roadrunner label.
Ember to Inferno was the band’s debut album. It came out in 2003 and debuted at No.85 on ARIA charts and at No.15 on the UK Rock Album chart. “Pillars of Serpents” and “The Deceived” were two of the biggest hit singles from this album.
In 2005, the band released its second album titled Ascendency. Debuting at No.151 on Billboard 200, the album became the band’s first commercially successful and critically acclaimed work. It sold over 500,000 records worldwide and was certified Gold in the UK. AllMusic was highly impressed and gave it 4 stars out of 5 and noted “Ascendancy aligns real-deal thrash with powerful modern influences. But at all times it's a platform for Trivium's own crazed talent.”
The Crusade was the title of Trivium’s third album, which was released in 2006. The album charted at No.25 on the Billboard 200 and across various charts all over the world. In the UK, it was certified Silver. This album was different from Trivium’s earlier works as it was more thrash metal than metalcore. AllMusic was impressed and gave it 4 out of 5 stars once again.
Cementing their place at the top
Shogun, Trivium’s next album, debuted at No.23 on the Billboard 200 and was seen as a continuation of The Crusade, since it too was heavy on thrash metal. It sold over 300,000 copies worldwide and once again did not fail to impress the critics, including AllMusic, which gave it 4.5 stars.
In 2011, Trivium released In Waves, which charted even better than its predecessor on the Billboard 200. With this album, Trivium fans felt that the band was going back to its roots, metalcore and traditional heavy metal. The album sold 22,000 copies in its first week of release and once again got 4 stars from AllMusic.
In 2013, the band released Vengeance Falls. Writing for AllMusic, Gregory Heaney wrote “With a songwriting that emphasizes quality over quantity or complexity, the album feels more precise in its execution, with every moment expertly placed in order to serve the songs rather than show off the band's musicianship (which is, as always, considerable)”. In addition to being critically claimed, the album was also commercially successful and sold 15,000 copies in its first week of release in the US alone.
Trivium’s latest album Silence in the Snow was released in 2015. This is the band’s first album not to feature any harsh vocals. The album sold 17,000 copies in its first week of release and got 4 out of 5 stars from The Guardian. It also debuted at No.19 on the Billboard 200.
Trivium are likely to play their most famous hits from these albums at their upcoming concert near you. So, get your Trivium tickets now and get ready to party with this ace-heavy metal band.
