Brothers Geoff Martyn and Chris along with school friends Andy Dunlop and Neil Primrose formed a band back in the 90s. Shortly afterwards, a female vocalist, Catherine Maxwell also joined the group. After sometime, a student from The Glasgow School of Art, Fran Healy replaced vocalist Catherine and is working alongside Travis to this date.
After listening to their music on the radio, a former associate of Neil Young and Rolling Stones, Mr. Niko Bolas approached Travis and showed great interest in their music. He travelled all the way to Perth just to meet them. The song "All I Want to Do Is Rock" changed the band’s fate. The track was sent to Charlie Pinder of Sony Music Publishing who praised the band by saying, "It was harder, more exciting, sexy; all things that they never really were. They turned a corner."
Their first album, Good Feeling became public in the late 90s and received a Gold certification in the UK. Several magazines ad internet publications such as The Observer, Entertainment Weekly, The Guardian and The New York Times wrote positive reviews about the album. Songs including "Tied to the 90s," "More Than Us" and "All I Want to Do Is Rock" earned the band immense commendations. The second record titled, The Man Who turned out to be a blockbuster hit. It received multiple Platinum and Gold certification in a number of countries. It gave the band international recognition within a matter of weeks. Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, BBC and several other rating organizations admired Travis’s music approach. No wonder the album took away Brit Awards for "Best Newcomer" and "Best Album." It was a commercial success in countries including Canada, UK, Germany, Ireland and America.
The band’s third studio album, The Invisible Band can be called one of the most successful works by Travis. It stayed on the top of the UK Albums chart for four weeks and received a Gold certification in countries like Germany, Sweden, France, Switzerland, New Zealand and Mexico. In regards of the album, Q Magazine has stated that, "While the wheel remains un-reinvented; The Invisible Band finds its mark with unerring accuracy." Songs including "Sing" and "Side" have also featured on the popular television show, The Office. Another one of the album’s tracks, "Flowers in the Window," can be heard in the Hollywood film, Saved!. On the whole, Travis has released six studio albums and the seventh one, Where You Stand, is about to hit the shelves. A number of the songs by Travis have been used in songs and TV Shows like Kyle XY, Feast of Love, Son of Rainbow and Smallville. Travis has made extensive world tours in the past two decades of their career. The band is also known for sharing the stage with a number of renowned musicians like Coldplay, Oasis, Starsailor, Keane and many more. The ensemble has been seen on many major platforms such as the Maxidrom Festival, Coachella Music and Arts Festival, Glastonbury Festival, V Festivals and T in the Park.
