Tracy Lawrence started his musical journey from "Live at Libby’s," a local country music restaurant whose owner Libby Knight has helped many talented singers find their way into the realm of country music. His first record deal was with Atlantic Records which he signed in 1991. The same year, he released his debut album "Sticks and Stones" whose title track was a hit single charting on number one. Three other singles from the album that made it to the Billboards country charts were "Runnin’ Behind," "Today’s Lonely Fool" and "Somebody Paints the Wall." Selling over a million copies, the album went platinum and Lawrence was named as Top New Male Vocalist by Billboard.
Lawrence’s second record to hit the stores was the multi-platinum album, "Alibis" which came out in 1993. The title track of the album remained on number one and also made an entry to the Billboard Hot 100 where it reached number 72. Other three singles to reach number one were "My Second Home," "Can’t break it to My Heart" and "If the Good Die Young." The same year, Academy of Country Music named Lawrence as the Top New Male Vocalist. He also did a track "Renegades, Rebels, and Rogues" for the film "Maverick." The song was an instant hit.
The follow-up of "Alibis" released in 1994 was again a platinum certified album "I See It Now." Two songs of the album including "As Any Fool Can See" and the title track were hits. Lawrence also released a live acoustic album in 1995 which was named "Tracy Lawrence Live and Unplugged." The sixth album, "Time Marches On" released in 1996, became second album of Lawrence to be certified double platinum by RIAA. The title track was a number one hit with two other singles "Is That a Tear" and "Stars over Texas" peaking at number two on U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and "If You Loved Me" peaking at number four.
In 1997, "The Coast is Clear" was issued which produced hit singles such as "Better Man, Better Off" on number two and "How a Cowgirl Says Goodbye" on number four, respectively. Although the title track of this album didn’t make it to number one, the album was certified gold. "Lessons Learnt," released in 2000 was Lawrence’s only album to make an appearance on pop charts. Its follow-up, "Tracy Lawrence" was his first and the only album to be released on Warner Bros. Records because Nashville division of Atlantic had been closed.
In the following years, Lawrence signed record deals with two other labels, DreamWorks Nashville and Mercury Nashville, on which "Strong" and "Then & Now: The Hit Collections" were released. Meanwhile, he also started his own business ventures and started "Rocky Comfort Records" in 2006. Lawrence’s first album to be released on his own label was "For the Love" with single "Find out Who Your Friends Are" on number one. His next two albums were "The Rock," in 2009 and "The Singer," in 2012. "Headlights, Taillights and Radio" is his upcoming album which is due to be released later this year.
