The Walt Disney Concert Hall, designed by the famous Frank Gehry, is among the many performance venues of LA Philharmonic. The orchestra moved there in 2003, where its winter season lasts from October to late May or June, including its performances of Toyota Symphonies for Youth. He requested Sergei Rachmaninoff to become the first music director of the orchestra, but since the latter had moved to New York only recently, he did not want to relocate yet again. Following this, Clark chose Walter Henry Rothwell as music director, alongside hiring many principal musicians from within the many East Coast orchestras as well as others from Los Angeles Symphony. LA philharmonic played its first ever concert the same year, only eleven days following its first rehearsal. After the death of Rothwell, several music directors appointed since the twenties included the likes of Artur Rodzinski and Georg Schneevoigt. Many notable composers to have conducted with the Philharmonic concerts include Esa-Pekka Salonen, Thomas Ades, John Adams, Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams, Steven Stucky, Pierre Boulez, Aaron Copland, Witold Lutoslawski, John Harbison, William Kraft and Igor Stravinsky. Conductors whom the orchestra has been closely tied with include Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos, Christoph Eschenbach, Charles Dutoit, Leanord Bernstein, Pierre Boulez, Kurt Sanderling, , while the older ones have included Erich Leinsdorf, Fritz Reiner, Albert Coates, Leopold Stokowski, Bruno Walter and Sir John Barbirolli.
