Born into a musical household, Tori Kelly’s father used to sing and play bass, while her mother was a skilled saxophonist and keyboard player. She grew up listening to gospel, R&B and pop, and was influenced by musicians like Lauryn Hill, Jeff Buckley and Jill Scott. At a very early age she developed ambitions to be a singer and participated in talent competitions like America's Most Talented Kids. She also auditioned for the American Idol and when that didn’t work out, embraced a new approach and started composing original songs. Tori posted her videos on YouTube and her page recorded almost 700,000 subscribers. Gaining confidence, she recorded the EP “Handmade Songs by Tori Kelly” and digitally released it. Selling quite well, it made it to 9th position on the Billboard Heatseekers chart.
