Music has no limits. That has been evidenced by countless artists who have pushed boundaries to create different genres, each encompassing different elements of sound. These artists have helped in the development and creation of the diverse music environment prevalent today. They have also inspired up and coming musicians to try and create something wholly unique. One of the leading artists in this global movement is Tool, one of the greatest metal bands in history.
Tool has been at the forefront of innovation in music ever since its formation over twenty five years ago. They have pushed the limits with every album, single and music video they release. Their need to experiment with music is so great that it is hard to properly categorize their sound into a specific genre. Now that they are preparing to go out on tour, here is the chance all their followers have been waiting for. If you are one of them, then grab your Tool tickets and watch them rock the stage once again, live.
United we stand
Tool consists of four band members, each with an individual set of skills that compliments the group’s ever changing sound. The original members were Adam Jones (guitar), Maynard James Keenan (vocals), Paul D'Amour (bass) and Danny Carey (drums, percussion). They formed Tool in 1990 and stayed together till 1995, which is when D’Amour was replaced with Justin Chancellor, after the original bassist decided to pursue other musical interests.
All you need is one
The band was formed in Los Angeles, even though none of the original members were residents of the city. Jones and D’Amour moved to the city in the hope of pursuing a career in television or movies, while Keenan made use of his Visual Arts degree and got a job as a pet store remodeler. Carey was the only one that was already involved in music, having played in several small times bands over the years.
Jones and Keenan were the first ones to become friends, after they were introduced to each other by a common acquaintance. After Jones heard a recording of his new friend’s voice, he was very impressed and convinced him in to starting a new band together. After asking several musicians to try out for the new group, Keenan’s upstairs neighbor Carey soon joined as a drummer and D’Amour followed soon after.
The band continued to jam together and put hours into practicing their set lists. After they deemed themselves ready, they started performing in several small time venues and had soon amassed a dedicated following. The rising popularity prompted several recording companies to offer them a contract and they eventually signed with Zoo Entertainment in 1992.

Tool started its journey in music by releasing a mixtape in 1991, called “72826.” That was followed by “Opiate” a year later, which made it to number forty eight on the US Top Pop Catalog Albums charts and was also certified platinum.
The tape laid the groundwork for their first official album, titled “Undertow” in 1993 which became an overnight hit in the world of alternate metal. It made it to number fifty on the Billboard charts and went to the top of the Top Heatseekers music charts. It has also been certified two times platinum in the US and platinum in Canada as well.
Since then, Tool has released three more albums, all of which have been very well received. Their 1996 release, called “Ænima” made it to number two on the Billboard charts, while its 2001 and 2006 follow ups, titled “Lateralus” and “10,000 Days” made it to number one on the US music charts. All three albums have also managed to be certified platinum in the US and several other countries around the globe as well.
Now they have announced the much awaited release of their newest album and are also planning on going out on tour. If you don’t want to miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity, then get your Tool tickets and watch one of the greatest metal bands in history, hit the stage live up close and personal.
