Tool is one of the few bands in history that have managed to create a sound so unique and innovative, that it gave birth to a whole new genre of music and inspired fellow musicians for years to come. The group has been known to take their time when recording new material and each album can take up to five years of development. However the end result is always worth it, as evidenced by their regularly sold-out shows and platinum selling records.
Tool was first established by four people in 1990. The first to meet were Maynard James Keenan (vocals) and Adam Jones (guitarist) who got together to jam together on different occasions during the late eighties. They soon added Danny Carey on drums and were later joined by bass player Paul D’Amour, who would quit the band five years later, only to be eventually replaced by Justin Chancellor.
On to greater things
Tool released their first album, called “Undertow” in 1993 and it made it to the top fifty on the Billboard charts. However its 1996 follow-up record, titled “Ænima” did even better, as it went all the way up to number two on the music charts. It was also certified three times platinum in the US and the trend continued with every subsequent album they released.
