Tom Petty decided to pursue a solo career but soon he ended up forming another supergroup called Heartbreakers that featured Stan Lynch on drums, Benmont Tench on piano and keyboards, Petty on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Mike Campbell on lead guitar and Ron Blair on bass.
 
Heartbreakers released their debut album called Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, the album came out in the mid 70’s and gained popularity in the year 1977 when it was re-released in with one single Breakdown managing to land at #48 on charts. More success came to the Heartbreakers in with the second album namely You’re Gonna Get It! this was the first album that entered the top album charts at #40. Damn the Torpedoes went on sale in stores in late 70’s and became the first ever album to sell 2 million copies earning a platinum certification. After a few more albums Tom Petty left the Heartbreakers and embarked on a solo career releasing a fine studio album called Full Moon Fever with fine amazing numbers like “Runnin Down a Dream” and “I Won’t Back Down”. One highlight of Full Moon Fever was that legendary drummer of The Beatles Ringo Starr played drums on one of the singles. Some other albums that Tom Petty has released are Into the Great Wide Open, Long after Dark and Highway Companion.
 
During his long career Tom Petty has teamed up with artists like Johnny Cash, Norah Jones, Willie Nelson, Lenny Kravitz, The Derek Trucks band, Pearl Jam, Steve Nicks and Allman Brothers band.  Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers were inducted in the prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and also received a star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame. Tom Petty has appeared in movies lke Made in Heaven and The Postman. He has also appeared Comedy Central and the very famous cartoon show The Simpsons.
