About TJ Miller

Miller has been included in one of Entertainment Weekly’s “Next Big Things in Comedy” and also Variety Magazine’s “Top 10 Comics to Watch”. Having hosted a number of award shows and comedy television programs, the thirty-six year old has made a name and created a market for himself in American comedy. Known for his cynicism and brutally honest humor, Miller is recognized for breaking pretences in his comedy. This tends to get him in trouble with the politically correct crowd. However, Miller is just the thing for you if you like to vent about many of society’s pretentious customs.

Having made a name for himself on the big screen and television, the comedian is now having a go at standup. He and his wife have changed cities to launch his standup career from New York City. Together, they have finalized a show, practiced it in numerous comedy clubs across the metropolis and are all set to tour it across the country. The best of Miller may have yet to be seen.

Beginnings on the Big Screen

TJ Miller began his career by working in some comedy films. These include “She’s out of my league”, “The Idiot Brother” and J.J. Abrams’ “Cloverfield”. Miller has also lent his voice to various animated movies, including DreamWorks’ “How to Train Your Dragon” franchise. Recently, he also played the voice of Weasel in Marvel’s “Deadpool” series.

After gaining wide recognition for Abrams’ film, Miller became a part of ABC Network’s TV series “Carpoolers” which became one of ABC’s prime comedy shows. In 2012, Miller became a part of HBO’s famed tech drama “Silicon Valley”, playing Erlich the hateable pessimist.  He played this character for four seasons and has received great acclaim and popularity for his portrayal of this character.

Departure from Television

Miller announced in the beginning of 2017 that he was leaving Silicon Valley due to ‘scheduling issues’. While there were rumors of in-fighting amongst the cast of the show, Miller announced that he felt his character’s time on the show was up and that it was already fairly finite. He said that he wanted to focus more on stand-up anyway, and he could not commit the required amount of time to this show. Praising HBO, he announced a comedy special on HBO and that he was still pretty much a part of the network.

HBO Comedy Special

Titled “Meticulously Ridiculous”, this comedy special was taped in September 2016 at the Paramount Theatre in Denver, Colorado. The special was produced as a part of HBO’s “Funny or Die” series and was aired in the beginning of 2017. The special features Miller’s raw and unabashed comedy, staying true to the ridiculous contention in the show’s title. Miller complains about face mists and air travel and jokes about carnival games. During the special, he brings out an axe at one point and hands it to an audience-member in the front. He asks the person to give his loudest battle cry, who does not disappoint.

Stand up 2017

Since he has so much experience in comedy, it is strange how this year’s tour is his first ever stand-up tour. Although Miller has appeared on a number of late night shows as a standup comedian and performed in various comedy festivals, he has never actively ventured into standup comedy as a career: until this year.

He made the move from Los Angeles to New York, the hub of standup comedy, this year and has now come up with an all-new standup show. Miller is prepared to take this show all over the country and Tj Miller tickets have already been announced for key locations such as New York City and Tulsa. This show has been a long time coming, and Millers’ countless fans have been anticipating them for a while now. Therefore, you should book your seats at first go, if you would like to witness it for yourself.
