was founded in the year 1991 in Marietta, Georgia, United States. The band was originally made up of Billy Wilkins, Mark Lee on the guitars, and Mac Powell on the lead vocals. The group now also includes Tai Anderson on the bass guitars and David Carr on the drums. The name of the band is based on the story of the rising of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion, as told in the Bible. The group started work on their debut album in 1993, while the members were still in school. Before the album was released however, Billy Wilkins left the band. The rest of the members continued to work on the album and released it in the year 1994, under the title of Long Time Forgotten. The band began to search for another guitarist the following year, and hired Brad Avery after they heard him play with Chris Cardar. The band released their second album after getting a contract with a recording company named Gray Dot Records. The album was self-titled and managed to sell twenty thousand copies.

Soon after the release of their second album, Third Day was offered a multi-album deal by Reunion Records. After signing with the company, their second album, Third Day, was released again officially, this time selling more than 300,000 records. The album also did well with the critics, and one of the most popular songs from the album, Nothing At All, reached the 34^th spot on the Billboard rock charts. Their video, Consuming Fire, won the award for Best Christian Video at the Billboard Music Awards. In addition to this, they were nominated for New Artist of the Year award at the Dove Awards. Third Day became extremely popular, performing all over the country and gaining millions of fans. Following the success of their previous album, the band once again went to work, and released another album titled Conspiracy No. 5. The producer of the album was Sam Taylor, and it went on to be nominated at the Grammy Awards. The album also won the Rock Song of the Year for their song, Alien, and Album of the Year awards at the Dove Awards. The group spent the whole of the next year on tour, performing at several venues throughout the country.

In the year 1998, the band began to work on another album, which they eventually released under the title of Time. This album became a huge success, getting them nominated for the Grammy Awards once again, and winning them another Dove Award. Next, Third Day undertook a project based solely on worship songs, and subsequently released a worship album named Offerings: A Worship Album. Following its release, the band went on a tour and performed their new songs all over the country. After the tour, the group went to work on yet another album. This was named Wherever You Are, and it became an instantaneous hit. They won a Grammy Award for the album, and it reached the 8^th spot on the Billboard 200 chart. Following its success, the group released a holiday album named Christmas Offerings. This also did well, both with the critics and with the audience. On the 19^th of September, 2009, Third Day became an inductee into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame.
