About The War on Drugs

The band was initially founded by Granduciel and fellow member, Kurt Vile. These two teamed up to release the band’s debut album, Wagonwheel Blues in 2008. Soon after the release of this album, Vile left the band to pursue a solo career. While Vile and Granduciel were the backbone of the band, The War on Drugs had a lot of supporting musicians in the lineup who eventually ended up becoming a part of the band’s lineup. After several changes to the lineup, the band released another album in 2011, titled, Slave Ambient. This musical work was met with favorable reviews from fans and critics alike and put the band on a path to stardom.

Soon after this, in 2013, the band announced that it would be releasing its third studio album, Lost in the Dream in March, 2014. A week before the release of the album, the band streamed the entire album on NPR’s First Listen website.

Following the release of this album, the band moved on to bigger things as it signed a two-album deal with Atlantic Records in June 2015.

On 22nd April, 2017, also known as the Record Store Day, the band released a brand-new single, to the delight of their fans. The single, called “Thinking of a Place” was produced by Shawn Everett and band member, Granduciel.

On April 28th, 2017, The War on Drugs announced that they would be going on tour in the fall of this year. If you want to catch some of their biggest hits live, you might want to get your hands on The War on Drugs tickets at the earliest.
