Date & Time

The band’s initial members included Julian Casablancas, who used to sing and jam along with Nick Valensi and Fab Moretti while they were students at the Dwight School, Manhattan. Julian met the drummer Albert Hammond Jr. in Switzerland after being sent there to improve his educational performance. They became friends, and Hammond joined Casablancas when he came to New York for his higher studies at the New York University’s Tisch School of Arts. They were also joined by Casablancas’ old friends and the groups started playing together as a proper rock band, performing at some local venues. These initial performances provided the band with recognition and encouragement to continue as professional singers. Starting off as a band professionally in late 1990s, the band managed to release its first collection of songs in form of an EP in 2001, titled The Modern Age.

The first EP The Strokes released gave a glimpse of the immense talent this group had to the public, and it became evident with the keen attitude of many renowned recording companies for signing the band on their label. The band released its first complete studio album with the title Is This It towards the end of 2001. It was not very late after the release that the band was recognized as one of the most promising rock bands in the industry, and the record sales of their first album stamped this fact. The album was rated very high by the international charts. The release and success of their first album was followed by their international tours, including those in countries like New Zealand, Australia, Japan, North America and Europe, sponsored mainly by the Rolling Stone.

In a couple of years the band established its identity as one of the renowned bands in the rock music industry, featuring on many talk shows as the musical guests, and performing at prestigious venues like Radio City Music Hall in New York. Their debut album Is This It was titled as the Greatest Album of the Decade by NME in 2009. Another magazine The Rolling Stone ranked this band at number two on its similar list. Several international charts ranked the band and its debut album at top positions for its popularity and quality of music. The album also did a great business in market, selling over 3.5 million copies worldwide by 2010.

The Strokes released its second album titled Room on Fire in 2003. It also followed its predecessor in terms of great sales records as well as critical acclamation.  It was this album that provided the band with the honor of being featured on the cover of the Rolling Stone magazine, along with others including Spin Magazine. The band also simultaneously attracted additional media coverage owing to the drummer Moretti’s intimate relations with famous actress Drew Barrymore.

Third album was First Impressions of Earth that was released in 2006. It debuted at number one on charts in the UK, while peaked at number four in the US. Although, some critics did not rank the album as high as the band’s previous ones, the album was still appreciated greatly by the public. In 2006 the band was also awarded with the title Best International Band by NME. The next album was titled Angles, but faced many controversies prior to its release, and the launch was postponed several times. It was also accompanied by some period of inactivity by the band that was termed as their hibernation period by the members, required by them in order to gather fresh thoughts and get some rest.

It is evident by the numerous awards The Strokes have received that their music is popular as well as critically acclaimed. For anyone who wishes to be benefitted by the band’s great live performance, The Strokes Tickets are the answer!
