The Roots is a hip hop band from America that was created in 1987. It was Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson and Tariq “The Black Thought” Trotter who formed the band in Philadelphia in Pennsylvania. The band has been very popular due to the fact that it was this band that brought the jazzy and eclectic advancement to the hip hop scene which still incorporates live instrumentals. Later the band added three new members namely, Josh Abrams, Leonard “Hub” Hubbard and Malik B. The original name of the band was The Square Roots. In 1993, The Roots released an album which had been independently produced and recorded. It was the band’s debut album by the name of Organix. Under the DGC Records label, in 1995, the band released the album Do You Want More?!!!?!. Scott Stroch and Rahzel, who were two guest performers on the album Do You Want More?!!!?! Scott Stroch and Rahzel later joined the band after appearing on the second album of the band. Unfortunately, Scott Storch did not stay in the band for long and left. After Scott Storch left, Kamal Gray replaced him and joined the band. In 1996, the band released their third album by the name of Illadelph Halfife. With the release of Illadelph Halfife the band got two more band members by the name of Dice Raw and Scratch. The fourth album of the band was literally a breakthrough album for the band and its members. The name of the fourth album was Things Fall Apart. The album Things Fall Apart was the first album of the band’s to break the top 10 of the Billboard 200. The album ranked at the number fourth slot. Then in 1999, the band released an EP by the name of The Legendary, along with a live album which was named The Roots Come Alive. In the production and release of The Legendary and The Roots Come Alive, for some reason, Malik B, Rahzel and Dice Raw broke up with the band all for various different reasons. The Roots released another album in 2000 by the name of Phrenology. Famous guitarist Ben Kenney became a part of the band for the production and the release of the Phrenology album of the band. However, Ben Kenney left the band after the release of the album and joined the much famous rock band by the name of Incubus. After the release of the Phrenology album, famous guest performer F. Knuckles joined the band and became a permanent member of the band. F. Knuckles. Later another permanent member joined the band by the name of Captain Kirk Douglas. Captain Kirk Douglas came in the place in Ben Kenny. While the lineup of the band was becoming more solid and permanent, Scratch unexpectedly made the decision of leaving the band. In 2004 the band released another album by the name of The Tripping Point. Then in 2006, the band released the famous album known as the Game Theory. Leonard Hubbard who had been with the band from the start decided to retire in 2007. The band replaced his place by adding Owen Biddle to the lineup of the band. In 2008, with Owen Biddle in the band, the band released another studio album which was their eight studio album by the name of Rising Down. Then on the 21st of June 2010, the band released their latest album by the name of How I Got Over. The Roots have collaborated with a lot of musicians from all types of musical genres; these include musicians like Cody Chesnutt and Roy Ayers. Over the years the band has successfully gained a lot of critical acclaim and has managed to have had their influence on many R&B and rap performances. On the 2nd of March in 2009, the band became the house band on the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. The band enjoys a massive fan following. Though the lineup of the band has been inconsistent, yet their music has been totally awesome.
