The Revivalists are basically a rock band, with an infusion of various other genres, such as alternative rock, indie rock, jam band and roots rock.
The Revivalists – Early Years
The starting of the rock band can be attributed to guitarist Zack Feinberg’s meeting with the frontman, David Shaw. The two came across each other in quite an interesting manner. Feinberg happened to be riding his bike when he rode past Shaw’s house and heard him singing a song called “Purple Heart” on the front porch. The two ended up conversing and got together later in the day to try and make some music together. After experimenting a little, they realized that they could work together. Soon the duo began playing with a drummer Feinberg met, Andrew Campenelli. Within a week, this version of the band managed to land a gig at Checkpoint Charlie’s Laundromat/Bar. It wasn’t long before they adopted the name The Revivalists and started playing at various local venues.
The Music of The Revivalists
They released their first EP, a self-titled work in the summers of 2008. This compilation was named among one of the best albums of the year by WWOZ New Orleans DJ Sherwood Collins. The next albums by the group were released by Wind-up Records. To date, this album has managed to sell more than 19,000 copies and has taken the fame of the band to a whole new level. In March of the next year, The Revivalists were picked as Elvis Duran’s Artist of the Month and got to feature on the Today show on NBC, hosted by Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford. Their performance on this show of their single “Wish I Knew You” was broadcast nationally.
