With the Polyphonic Spree Concert tickets, fans can watch the band that was established with the demise of the psychedelic rock group Tripping Daisy in 1999. When this group came to an abrupt end with the demise of one of its members, Wes Berggren from drug abuse, Tim DeLaughter decided to put together a brand new group that would create the music that he grew up listening to. He was seen collaborating with over twelve musicians to explore the vocal styles and orchestral palette of The 5th Dimension, the Association, the Beach Boys and Black Sabbath.
The debut performance that was put forth by DeLaughter and his fellow musicians included a thirty minute set. They were also seen supporting their signature white robes and shared the stage with acts such as Bright Eyes and Grandaddy. After the success of this event, DeLaughter gathered more musicians and started working on their first demo tape. The tape consisted of nine tracks that were performed in the debut show along with an additional track. The main aim behind this demo was to attract the attention of recording labels and booking agents.
They were successful as the Polyphonic Spree were seen performing at the South by Southwest Music Festival, the Meltdown Festival and the Divine Comedy showcase. In 2003 the group came forth with their popular single "Light and Day/Reach for the Sun". The track was used by Volkswagen Beetle and iPod advertising campaign apart from being heard during a National Football League preseason special tribute to Bill Walsh. If this wasn’t enough television comedy series "Scrubs" also used the single and the song was also added to the soundtrack of "Undone", a sci-fi comedy created by BBC Radio. The band was then invited to perform in David Bowie’s "Reality Tour" as an opening act.
A year later, the Polyphonic Spree was approached by Hollywood Records to sign a deal. In the same year, the record label company financed the band’s sophomore studio release titled "Together we’re Happy". The band was also featured on Scrubs in the episode called "My Choosiest Choice of All". The band can also be heard on the soundtrack of the motion picture "Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind". Since then the group has released three studio albums, three EPs and live DVDs, eleven singles and provided music for seven films. The current lineup of the group consists of twenty members with DeLaughter as the lead vocalist, who is supported by six choir members. The band also consists of fourteen musicians who play guitars, piano, cellos, French horn, harps, trombones, drums and keys.
